The Popularity Of Government Jobs In Rural Areas.........

The Indian job scenario has evolved a lot over the last couple of years. India always had a good number of talented people (and also educated ones), but that did not make it easier for them to find employment. Things have changed now because a lot of different information-technology companies have set up their units in India and they are hiring a lot of local talent. As long as you have a graduate degree, average communication skills and a willingness to work in a 24 X 7 environment, you can easily get yourself a job in one of these IT companies. In spite of these changes, it seems that people living in the rural areas still prefer government jobs over private jobs. They have their own reasons but in this article we'll discuss about a very uncommon (and unfair) reason - dowry!

The dowry practice has always been a major problem for rural India. The government has taken a lot of different steps to uproot it completely, but it has so far been very much unsuccessful. There is a link between the popularity of government jobs in the rural areas to the dowry system. If a person has a government job, he is eligible for more dowries compared to someone from the private sector! Like it or not, the level of corruption is very high in almost all government departments in India and this is primarily responsible for the dowry system. It is basically a vicious cycle. During marriage, the family of the bride offers a large amount of money (and also other items) to the family of the groom as an appreciation amount for his high social status (owing to his government job). The bride's family basically "buys" the groom and the price depends on the position that he holds in a government department. If the newlyweds end up having a daughter, they start saving up right from the beginning to pay for her marriage. Now, the question is, where is this huge money supposed come from? We might not like it, but the truth is, this money is supposed to be earned by the father by misusing the power of his government post! A portion of the money that he took during his marriage is also used, but when that is not enough to "buy" a good groom; the government position comes handy.
